Personality
I have always loved to create new ideas and get them to work. It's important for me that my results are aesthetically attractive and done carefully. I believe in the point of view that IT-products shall be specified as wide as possible on the users promises. I have extensive experience in solving task for which I initially often have no known specific solution.
In my former carrier as employed, I was known as enthusiastic, humoristic and self unpretentious. In my late carrier as consultant, I have kept this attitude and I am very good in cooperating.
Experience
I have concentrated in usability consulting and design of user interfaces and screen graphics. My largest assignment has been a modular screen graphics concept for the new traffic control center of the Copenhagen Commuter Rail "S-Banen". Other GUI projects has been the main clearing system "Kronos" for the Danish National Bank and the Central Business Register "CVR" for the Danish Tax Administration.
Among my hard interface designs are an GSM cell phone for Cetelco A/S, where I introduced several new user interface principles, a remote control unit for a traction engine for the Danish Railroads DSB, a remote control concept for the roof window manufacturer Velux A/S, and analysis and new concept for a remote controller for Homelinc A/S.
I have great experience in symbolic screen drawing and transformation to appropriate file formats for either printing or screen presentation.
In my early carrier at Bang and Olufsen, I have designed circuits for radio receivers, power amplifiers, control logic, IR remote control, and micro processors. For several years my position were design manager for logic systems.
Period Work Experience
08-1989/Now: Period as independent designer: I have solved a large number of tasks covering from half a day to several months of work. My costumers and contacts has been:
Bang&Olufsen A/S, Wittenborg A/S, Farmer Tronic A/S, Cetelco A/S, Jydsk Telefon A/S, Exhausto A/S, DSB S-tog, Rotatec A/S, Lego A/S, Danfoss A/S, DSB Materiel, Told Skat, Banestyrelsen, Digianswer A/S, Lasat A/S, Seven Seas Logistics I/S, Velux A/S, AL Finans A/S, Danmarks Nationalbank, Bankernes EDB Central, IT Intergroup ApS, Homelinc A/S, Super Mind Institute ApS, Børsen e-Learning, IT Brains ApS, LM Projects ApS.
Below is described some of my jobs.
- 11-2002/Now eLearning Management System: The product is Web-based and I have created an universal WEB GUI named "TABS" to be used for this product and easily customized for other products too. The project is paused due to lag of founding.
- 12-2001/02-2002 GUI for an e-learning program: The costumer Super Mind Aps had developed a speed reading technique for e-learning but the GUI needed both usability and esthetical finish to make it sell able. The product is now on the market supported by Børsen e-Learning.
- 09-2001/10-2001 Usability evaluation and UI design for Homelinc AIS: Example of a 2 times 5 days task. Evaluation of existing product > improvement proposals > sparring on customers ideas > analysis and creation of new ideas > presentation of temporary result > corrections and refinements > delivery of end result.
- 08-2000/10-2000 GUI design for Danmarks Nationalbank: The application was the main clearing system Kronos and my task was to improve an existing GUI lay-out and afterwards to inspire the implementation people from a subcontractor to redo there work. This was a balancing act. The Bank was very satisfied with both the design result and my way of working it through.
- 02-2000/05-1999 Remote control concept for Velux windows: This is an example of a sparring/inspiration task. Evaluation of existing products > sparring on ideas for a new product concept > design proposals for new control structure and principles for control devices > brainstorm meeting with the style designer plus marketing and development people (very successful) > conclusion.
- 06-1996/02-1997 Design of active overview big-board: This task succeeded the screen graphics design for S-Banen. The board measured 2*20 meters and showed a complete mapping of the railway infrastructure with hundreds of elements as track switches, signals, train positions, etc. More than 1000 LEDs indicated the operational states. The purpose was to give the operators (controlling a small part on screens ) an overview of the overall traffic situation.
- 03-1991/08-1995 Screen graphics for railway traffic control: This work was done in spitted-up periods. I created a modular screen graphics structure to map the entire infrastructure of the Copenhagen commuter rail S-Banen. The challenge was to picture the state of and control access to all track switches, signals, train paths, train positions, traffic information (an much more) on as few screen pictures as possible. The result was developed as participatory design in a successfull cooperation with a user-group of traffic operators.
- 05-1993/09-1994 Remote controller for a traction locomotive: The task was to design a robust and fail-safe remote controller to be used in a very rough environment without limiting the operators freedom of movement. The solution was a compact unit encircling the operators stomach and the control was based on plane proportional handles to insure the operator instant feedback on the level of traction and braking. Fore this project I did a very nice mechanical model (which I can show you).
- 12-1993/06-1994 GUI design for the Danish Tax Administration: GUI standard to be used in the pre contract specification (udbudsmateriale) for the CVR system. I suggested tabs as a main interaction element, as users are comfortable with tabs. The esthetical design solution was an important part of the task too.
- 11-1992/05-1993 Design of control panel for LEGO TECHNICS: Idea generation and design of user interface for kids. Part 1 was redesign of the existing terminal and part 2 was design proposals for the future terminal. Also in this project I used state transition diagrams to describe the control dialog.
- 03-1990/08-1992 Use interface for GSM cell phone by Cetelco: I created the basic interface idea, did the button panel and display layout and described the interaction dialog using state transition diagrams. For the first time seen on a cell phone I introduced soft scroll and soft keys on a graphic LCD display. The design was reused in the succeeding generations.
- 01-1986/08-1989 Concept Manager at Bang&Olufsen: My dream job in the B&O design department called Idea Land. The assignment was long-term idea creation and research on user interface design. I milestone in this period was configuration of a Home Information Network called HIN, which was continued in a dedicated development department. Unfortunately the project was shut down, coursed by bad business conditions at that time.
- 01-1977/01-1986 Design Manager of digital systems at B&O: In this period I was responsible for the introduction of micro processor technology. The hardware used was TI TMS 9940, Rockwell 6500 and Intell 8048. I did a extremely small RTOS with a resolution of 1 clock cycle and I also defined the B&O IR remote and interconnection protocol, which is still in use.
- 11-1970/01-1977 Development Engineer at Bang&Olufsen: Analog and digital electronics design by participation in several project groups. As example I did a very nice power amplifier free of transient inter modulation distortion, which was a hot item at that time. The design concept was implemented in several B&O products. I also (in 1971) did a an experimental class D bass amplifier.
